Measure the height and width of the wall carefully to determine how many acoustic panels are required and identify where cutting is needed.

Transfer the measurements onto the panel using a pencil and straight edge. Apply masking tape along the cutting line to minimize edge chipping.

Use a fine-tooth hand saw or circular saw with a sharp blade to cut the panel accurately. Remove the masking tape after cutting.

If any wooden slats become loose after cutting, fasten them from the back using short screws to restore the panel’s stability.

Apply a high-strength fast-grab construction adhesive evenly across the felt backing in vertical or zigzag lines for maximum bonding.

Position the first panel from left to right, ensuring the overlapping slat edge is correctly aligned. Press firmly from top to bottom while checking vertical alignment with a spirit level.

Install the remaining panels one by one, making sure each panel fits tightly with the previous one to create seamless joints.

Measure the remaining space at the end of the wall, trim the last panel to the correct width, and install it using the same method.

1. Can acoustic wall panels be installed directly on drywall?
Yes. Acoustic wall panels can be installed directly on drywall using a high-quality construction adhesive. For heavier panels or commercial applications, screws fixed into wall studs or timber battens are recommended to provide additional support and make future removal easier.
2. Do I need to leave an expansion gap when installing acoustic wall panels?
Yes. Leaving a small expansion gap of 3–5 mm (1/8–3/16 inch) around the edges of the installation allows the panels to naturally expand and contract with changes in temperature and humidity. This helps prevent buckling, warping, or pressure between panels over time.
3. Can acoustic wall panels be cut to fit around outlets and corners?
Yes. Acoustic wall panels can be cut to fit electrical outlets, switches, windows, doors, and corners. For the cleanest finish, use a fine-tooth circular saw or jigsaw for the wood slats and a sharp utility knife to trim the PET felt backing. Always measure carefully before cutting.
4. Should I use adhesive or screws to install acoustic wall panels?
It depends on your project. Construction adhesive is ideal for most residential walls because it creates a clean, concealed installation. Screws are recommended for timber battens, uneven walls, commercial projects, or when you may want to remove or replace the panels in the future.
5. Can acoustic wall panels be installed on uneven walls?
Acoustic wall panels perform best on a flat, stable surface. Minor wall imperfections can often be corrected with adhesive, but significantly uneven walls should be leveled first or fitted with timber battens to create an even mounting surface. Proper wall preparation ensures better alignment and a professional finish.
6.How long does it take to install acoustic wall panels?
Installation time depends on the wall size and installation method. For a standard residential feature wall, most DIY projects can be completed in 2–4 hours, while larger or more complex installations may take a full day. Careful measuring, leveling, and planning before installation will help speed up the process and improve the final result.
7. Can I install acoustic wall panels by myself?
Yes. Most acoustic wall panels are designed to be DIY-friendly and can be installed using basic tools such as a tape measure, spirit level, drill, and construction adhesive. However, for large feature walls or commercial projects, professional installation is recommended to ensure perfect alignment and long-term performance.
